ELISHA BAGALWA

I have become a Front-end developper

...In just three months of learning, I was surprised to see that I could be able to design a simple website and gain first knowledge of hosting it online. After 4 months, I started teaching myself the basics of JavaScript programming focusing on the front end. By now I feel like I am a front-end web developer and It’s my pleasure to let you know that Up With Africa has given me an internship.

AISHA TUMUKUNDE

I feel better and strong after dancing ...

...Living in Nakivale all this time has been the most challenging moment of my life due to so many factors and situations happening in the settlement, such as lack of water, lack of food at home, not having access to education and many other problems that I couldn’t even understand why they’re happening to us; all these issues led me (and other young girls) to get stressed almost everyday.

I learned how to integrate with other people

...After attending UWA and NTG Stress management training in 2023, I have been able to learn to use many techniques to help me feel better whenever I was stressed out. I learned how to integrate with other people to look for support feeling depressed and to support each other in the community. I also learned that sport is another way of reducing stress that I have started again playing football.

JEREMIE NAJIKA

I wouldn’t complete any single term at school

...Without UWA (Up With Africa), I wouldn’t complete any single term at school. I thank their leaders who come to our school to visit us, talking to my mother to understand which kind of support we would need especially for our education. The little support they provided was really helpful to I and my siblings to keep going to school for the year 2023.

Sitting in front of a computer using Excel …

...Before I use to think that using a computer is very hard that I need to reach university level to be able to use a computer, but our teacher (Tr. Justin) showed us that a computer works just like smartphones we are using, if we can be able to use a smartphone, it means that we can also use a computer because they both can receive data.

SUDANESE WOMEN GROUP

Our work was not documented online

Our work was not documented online before UWA trained us, we use to just write in books and only one/two person hard some knowledge of typing in MS Word and Excel. We are glad that we can now use Excel to create budgets and keep our files safe online. We also learned how to protect our data by creating strong passwords.
